4 Ways to Deal with a Burnout

Burnout is exhausting and more people are feeling this during the pandemic. Whether it be physical, mental or emotional, if not addressed in time, it can lead to serious repercussions. If you’re suffering from burnout and don’t know what to do, these 4 ways to deal with a burnout will help.

1. Relax and Take a Break

It’s pretty common to have workplace burnout, these days, and no one’s immune to that. Working indefinitely without taking a break can be exhausting, and I know, it’s not possible to go on a full-blown vacation especially when you’re tied up with work. But can’t you take a weekend off to spend some time with yourself? You can make the most of it, by doing some recreational activities, taking your dog to the park, binge-watching Netflix or catching up with your friends. No matter how important you’re to the job but can’t be as important as you think. It’s important, considering your mental peace, to take a leave and spend some time with yourself before it drains you out. So, relax and enjoy your own company!

2. Eat Healthily

There are two types of reaction which you get from people experiencing burnout:

  1. Those who start binge eating
  2. Those who stop eating

Well, neither of them is good! If you start overeating, you’d start piling on the pound, which would make you feel sluggish and depressed. On the flip side, if you stop eating, you’d get more drained as your body would start running out of fuel which it requires to function well, which would be even worse. So, if even you’re getting the blues, don’t skip your meal! Stick to your normal eating routine.

3. Sleep Well

The more you feel exhausted or burned out, the more sleep your body would crave. I know, it’s hard to be in bed, the whole day especially if you give more importance to work. But, you just can't force your body or keep beating yourself up for staying awake, even if you don't want to. Relax, take a nap for the sake of your mind and body.

4. Exercise

I know, exercise is a bit tiresome. But it’s not as bad as it sounds. Avoid sitting on your desk for hours. Instead, take a walk, or step out for lunch. Start doing light exercises to feel good. Trust me, once you start exercising, there’s no going back! Your body would start loving it, making you crave more, and eventually, it would get easier.

The Takeaway

Once you overcome burnout, try to prevent becoming burned out in the future. You should start contemplating about your body and mind: Are you’re getting more worked-up? Are you getting enough sleep? Are you happy with your life? Those are some preventive measures needed to implement, in order, to conquer this forever.

You just can’t neglect your needs, in order to meet someone else’s. You can’t please everyone in the world! You're entitled to happiness!
